Timișoara has been selected to be the European Capital of Culture 2021 for Romania
Timișoara is now the second Romanian city to be chosen as a European Capital of culture, after Sibiu received this honour in 2007. It no doubt will rise to the challenge.
The city is now part of what has become one of the most ambitious cultural projects of the European Union, giving EU neighbours the opportunity to learn more about each other’s cultures through cultural dialogue.
Timișoara is a rather complex, multicultural city as it is home to no less than 21 different ethnicities and 18 religions! Interculturality has long been a special characteristic for the western part of Romania and the city will be emphasising this feature even more so in 2021.
Having this honour is surely going to improve Timișoara’s reputation and development.
In 2021, the city will be staging plenty of shows, workshops, and conferences. Guided tours and lots of other activities are to bring the city’s cultural richness into focus. As our beautiful city is going to attract many visitors from across Europe and the wider world, the mix of languages spoken and the activities around town are going to be just as diverse, colourful and exciting.
