Quality Control

An important part of our operations is a transparent and consistent quality control policy.

The European Quality Standard for translation services, EN 17100, describes the processes that are important to provide quality services. Our work complies with this standard and we fulfil the criteria laid out therein, from our translators’ qualifications, to checking and revisions performed by experts, right down to tracking and traceability of each of our projects.

How do we ensure the quality of our language services?

  • Keeping you in the loop thanks to good, short communication channels
  • Clearly defined internal project management procedures
  • Qualified and experienced translators, proofreaders and editors across the board
  • Consistent quality control measures in place and implemented throughout

The workflow is stringently organised, starting with a client’s needs analysis, followed by project registration, time management, allocation of the right resources, checking the translation that comes back from the translator for meeting client requirements, right down to delivering the job on-time.

Translator qualifications

  • Translators are qualified according to EN 17100
  • Translators always translate from a foreign language into their native language
  • Translators can evidence positive feedback from clients and colleagues
  • Translators can evidence continuous professional development, attend seminars and keep abreast with the latest developments in translations and their areas of expertise.

Proofreader/editor qualifications

  • Proofreaders/editors must meet the same criteria that apply to translators. They have translation experience in the specialized fields they proofread and edit.

Upon request, we will provide you with our translators’ qualification certificates.

Proofreaders/editors provide regular feedback to translators and project managers working on the various projects. The ongoing feedback and good communication between everybody involved builds up everyone’s knowledge and is the foundation of our success.

Professional development writ large at Active Translators! We encourage everyone working with us to attend regular professional training and courses, for instance in project management, quality assurance and translation technologies.

We are transparent both with regard to internal operations and in terms of customer relations – we are what we do: excellent communicators. It’s what makes us tick!

How do we carry out additional quality assurance checks?

Rest assured that our quality assurance software enables us to identify all kinds of errors, from terminology inconsistencies to numeric mismatches, missing tags, double spacing and much more.

Both translators and proofreaders are required to use QA tools to verify their work. This also doubles up as a true time-saver, which means our team can really concentrate on checking the translations and make sure that all your requirements have been met.

For the additional quality assurance checks we use specific programs such as Verifika or Xbench.

Software Active Translators

The Software programs we use

  • Project management software
  • Computer-assisted translation tools or CAT tools (SDL Trados, Across Language Server)
  • Quality assurance and quality check programs

We use the latest CAT tools or Translation Memory Systems, which significantly help to keep costs down as they are the tools that create client terminology databases.

A Translation Memory System saves each sentence as it is translated by a qualified translator, allowing the possibility to re-use it at any time in the future. For example, the translation of a technical manual explaining how to use a machine, translated by one of our translators, is saved to a translation memory which bears the client name, i.e. it is dedicated to this specific client. At a later date, when the client needs another translation of a similar or updated machine, the new document can be translated or the old one updated much faster, as the translation memory will match up the same sentences or look for similar sentences. Terminology will stay consistent and the process becomes faster. This means lower costs for updates and repetitions.

The CAT Tools we use are SDL Trados and Across Language Server.
